Democracy School in Albuquerque - FEB 3-4

Desert Rock protest

"If you take no other training this year, do the Democracy School. It is a superlative unfolding revelation of how corporations have hijacked democracy. It meticulously deconstructs the historical arc that brought us to this precipice. But most importantly, it then departs into the highly pragmatic and inspiring work now underway that is slowly turning the tide . . . This Second American Revolution may be the most important political work going on anywhere in the country or the world." ---Kenny Ausubel ‘05, Founder and Co-Executive Director, Bioneers

Hiking this weekend....

Santa Fe Baldy

CHANGED! Saturday, January 7 - Moderate snowshoe. A 5-mile RT up to Scooter Peak above the Valles Caldera. Due to the packed snow on the larger lower section of the trail, traction on your boots or just boots will be easier than snowshoes. The last 1/2 mile up is off trail. Please be prepared to carry your snowshoes for the lower portion. Nice views of the Valle Grande and beyond. About a 1,000 ft. climb. Alan Shapiro, (505) 424-9242, Nm5s@yahoo.com

ADDED! Sunday, January 8 -- Easy/moderate loop hike to Picacho Peak and nearby area on the Dale Ball Trails. About 3-4 miles and 1000' gain, so this one is short but has plenty of uphill. Moderately fast pace, lunch with a view. Icy spots likely, so bring your micro spikes, yak trax, or other traction devices. Dogs ok with leash. Mary Thompson mary14er@gmail.com, (505) 469 9499
