U.S. Fish and Wildlife open house on wolf release

Reserve community center map

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service may be releasing a mated pair of wolves in the near future into the Gila Wilderness. Please attend the open house meeting in Reserve, N.M., to talk to agency officials, ask questions, and convey support for wolves!

A wolf pair currently in captivity has bonded and exhibited mating behavior. How wonderful would it be if pups are on the way and that they could be born deep in the wilds of the Gila. Not only could the wolf population use a boost, but the influx of new genes are critical to survival in the wild of this imperiled species.

Silvery minnow hanging on; new projects bring hope

By Robert B. Carleton
Central Group Executive Committee

You can’t deny they were here first.” Thus began Biologist Jerry Burton’s July 13, 2003, article in the Albuquerque Journal. Despite intense efforts, they are still just barely hanging on in the Middle Rio Grande. A brighter future might be in store.
